The 688 2RS is the double rubber-sealed version of the 688 miniature deep groove ball bearing. Bore 8mm, outside diameter 16mm, width 5mm. "2RS" means a rubber seal on each side, forming a contact structure — the seal lip contacts the inner ring and typically blocks dust, moisture and liquid more fully than a non-contact metal shield (compared with the same-size ZZ version).
A contact seal offers more complete protection, but because the seal lip touches the inner ring it adds running resistance and can affect the applicable speed and temperature range. So three points are worth confirming: first, the protection required (exposure to moisture, liquid or fine dust); second, the intended speed; third, the operating temperature. Protection, friction and speed involve a trade-off, and suitability still needs to be confirmed against the actual application.
