The 685 2RS is the double rubber-sealed version of the 685 miniature deep groove ball bearing, with a 5 mm bore, 11 mm outside diameter and 5 mm width. The 2RS seals on both sides are contact type, staying in contact with the inner ring. This gives more complete protection against dust and moisture than a non-contact metal-shielded (ZZ) version; because the seals contact the inner ring, however, running resistance and heat generation are generally higher than on non-contact versions. Suitability still depends on the actual operating conditions.
Contact seals have an advantage in more demanding environments, but the contact friction is affected by speed and temperature. So the main points to confirm here are operating speed, working temperature range, and how much sealing the environment actually requires. For higher-speed or continuous high-temperature use, it's worth evaluating whether the heat from seal friction is acceptable, or whether a non-contact version would suit better. Where there is more moisture or a need for stronger protection, the 2RS can be considered.
